be able to在JIII-37 已学过，它和can意思相近，但be able to 可有更多的时态形式，还可和情态词连用，也可用于不定式等短语中，例如：

3． be used for…被用来（作某种用途）

介词for表示目的，后接名词、代词或动名词。例如：

1）The knife is used for cutting things．
